  6. Welcome to the electronic distribution of StoneTracker 1.25 !
  7.  
  8. As its name says, StoneTracker is a music composing program of the tracker
  9. kind, like its famous ancestors ProTracker, NoiseTracker, Art Of Noise
  10. and others, although everything has been written from scratch.
  11.  
  12. This is a demonstration version which won't allow you to save anything,
  13. but will let you test the skills of our program and decide if you need
  14. it or not. After all, even if we believe this is the most powerful and
  15. user friendly tracker available on the Amiga, the 'best' program is the
  16. program that best suits your needs.
  17.  
  18. The main features are :
  19.  
  20.         - System friendly, OS 2.0 look (with our personal touch of
  21.           course), no enforcer hit!, installs as commodity, AppIcon,
  22.           AppMenuItem... Allocates channels, can deallocate without
  23.           quitting. Compatible with VGA/Multisync etc. screens. Gets
  24.           the best from the Amiga and puts you in a secure environment.
  25.  
  26.         - Locale support. English and French currently; German planned.
  27.           Any translator is welcomed.
  28.  
  29.         - "Everything on screen" and ergonomic user interface, studied with
  30.           a tracker musician. Secure against unwished operations..

  32.         - full-featured AREXX port
  33.  
  34.         - Extreme configurability.
  35.  
  36.         - Noise/ProTracker keyboard shortcuts emulation.
  37.  
  38.         - Custom module format, allows compression of sample banks with
  39.           three different and dedicated methods.

  41.         - Import of 13 existing formats (e.g. ProTracker, FastTracker,
  42.           OctaMed, Oktalyzer, ThePlayer...)

  44.         - Export of ProTracker and FastTracker formats in addition to

  60.         - Patterns seperated for each track, allowing you e.g. to reuse a
  61.           beat or a bass line from a position to another !
  62.           Command for "remapping" duplicate patterns in imported
  63.           modules that haven't this feature (ex. ProTracker) saving
  64.           a lot of memory!

  66.         - Up to 255 samples! Can be loaded in FAST memory : no size
  67.           limit except the size of your fastmem.
  68.  
  69.         - 4 ("native") tracks or 5,6,7,8 tracks, all with configurable
  70.           mixing quality, from 4 to 50 Khz (28 Khz on PAL/NTSC "basic"
  71.           displays). All effects can be used in all modes, no
  72.           restrictions! Mixing technique is more like TFMX than OctaMed
  73.           or ArtOfNoise resulting in high quality sound. Each song
  74.           can have its own number of tracks, and you can jump from
  75.           e.g. one song in 4 tracks to one in 7 without hearing a
  76.           noise or whatever!

  78.         - Each track has its own volume. General volume for the music.
  79.           Master volume on top of all controlled by the programmer.
  80.  
  81.         - Up to SEVEN effects per note per track!
  82.  
  83.         - Special "FX" track with up to EIGHT effects per line,
  84.           dedicated to speed and general control commands.

  86.         - Extended effects!
  87.  
  88.         - Effect for gearing your program to the music (calls a user
  89.           function when this effect is reached). Ideal for game intros,
  90.           demos, etc.

  92.         - Command for MIXING a position into a sample ! Make your arpeggios,
  93.           drums or whatever...

  95.         - Command for timing a song; no need to play the whole song to know
  96.           its duration anymore.

  98.         - Highly optimized play and mixing routines.

  100.         - Player is a shared library, used even by the editor!

  157. If you are downloading from Aminet, don't forget to download along with
  158. the program the XPK and XFD packages (in util/pack) if you haven't
  159. installed them already. StoneTracker makes use of them.
